What is Astragalus Root?

  • – Astragalus Root, also known as Astragalus membranaceus, is an important herb in traditional Chinese medicine. It has a long history usage in various herbal blends and natural remedies, including Dang-gui buxue tang, which is a combination of Astragalus membranaceus and Angelicae Sinensis. Astragalus membranaceus has recently been researched on its cardioprotectice, anti-inflammatory, and longevity effects. The main active ingredient in Astragalus membranaceus is astragaloside IV, which has been extracted, isolated and patented under the name TA-65 and marketed as an agent to prolong life span. However, astragaloside IV has a low bioavailability, which means that is can only be present in human bodies at low concentrations. Still, it still has beneficial effects at low concentrations.[1]
